Twenty-five years ago, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) launched a small website containing 22 health topics of particular interest to consumers. Today, MedlinePlus is home to over 1,000 health topics as well as summaries of drugs and medical tests, many of which incorporate or link to information from PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, or Genetics Home Reference (now MedlinePlus Genetics). The site also is available fully in Spanish, is integrated with many electronic health record systems and patient portals, and is one of the most-visited government websites.
