We Do More Than Buy, Store and Provide Access to Journals and Books
Citation Verification - We'll help faculty and staff find and verify their own publications. This is especially helpful when using a collaboration tool such as Activity Insights.
Consumer Health Classes for HSC - Under construction
Copyright - We're not experts but we are pretty fluent about copyright
Grants - We want to collaborate on grants that have components that require the skills of a librarian
Outreach - We would love to partner with others on campus that are reaching out to the community. As a resource Library in the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, we look for opportunities to highlight professional and consumer resources provided by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Preserve the History of the Health Sciences - This library has the largest collection of health resources in the State of Oklahoma, both print and electronic. We are committed to preserving this history in the form of print, electronic and realia.
Review and Purchase of Electronic Resources - This is what we do: we research, evaluate, recommend and purchase all kinds of resources from major vendors and from more obscure ones.
Systematic Reviews - Librarians are the specialists when it come to searching for, locating and retrieving information. Planning and implementing a systematic review requires a methodology that utilizes skills unique to librarians. The entire basis for research of this nature relies on individuals who are knowledgeable, competent and thorough in their search skills.
Technology and training resources are available that you might not otherwise have access to, such as a remote interactive smart board, models for clinical or anatomical training, or the PCLAB for group classes.
The Bird Health Sciences Library Is Open to the Public
Here are some of the ways we interact with the community
Courtesy Card - Oklahoma resident's may borrow items that can be checked out, a valid Oklahoma Driver's license or State issued ID is required. We honor the OK-Share card; OK-Share is a consortium of Oklahoma universities that have agreed upon reciprocal borrowing privileges. Check with your institution about obtaining an OK-Share card.
Electronic resources - Databases, ebooks, ejournals, and other online content are available to all library visitors
Document Delivery is available to health professionals and consumers that would like to use Bird to request and receive health related materials; there is an associated cost.
Exhibit at health fairs and other health oriented event, providing information about services and electronic resources available to the community
- As a resource Library in the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, we look for opportunities to highlight professional and consumer resources provided by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Preceptors - Individuals serving in a preceptor or similar role have an agreement with a specific college. They are afforded the same library services as other OUHSC faculty or staff, however the library is not responsible for assigning campus logins; that must be initiated through the department or college.
Presentations for health consumers, students, health professionals, librarians, parents, and others
Reference Assistance - The library is open to the public and Reference librarians are happy to assist you with your health information needs
